Reflection about Hofstede's Individualism vs Collectivism
Wassup,
Ok so for starters, in class we talked about collectivism versus individualism. Very interesting topic, especially for Europeans because we have very different outlooks on it there depending on the country. We have a saying that the more West/North you go people would mostly look after themselves and of course vice versa. Maybe this comes from the disparity in income between the countries of the West/East. Poorer societies are more likely to stick together, because they have mostly family to rely on.
But about Japan I found it a bit confusing in class, since I always looked at the country and also from my personal experience as a hard place to make bonds. Especially deeper ones. You need a lot of time to achieve something like that. Japanese students in class said to me the contrary, that Japan is a very collectivist culture. Maybe, the meaning of collectivist is different in Asia, than in Europe? I really cant say.
Similarities and differences between Bulgaria and Japan. Hmmm. I guess a similarity is the respect for elders, both cultures really emphasize that, which also ties to the promotion of experienced and senior workers, but in Japan is a bit more. In Bulgaria nepotism is really big, from what I understood in class in Japan not so much. But all in all, I think booth societies are considered collectivist just very, VERY different ones.
On the questions side I think I agree mostly with the collectivist ones. I try to be selfless and make other people happy. Now how often I succeed I cant really tell, and I shouldnt be the one to judge. I have stated it multiple times, but I just think collectivist societies thrive more and tend to be more happy. But besides all that ,I want to say that CAPITALISM IS THE BEST THING. I LOVE CAPITALISM RAHHHHH🦅🦅🦅🇺🇸🇺🇸.
