Reflection about Hofstede's Individualism vs Collectivism

Wassup, Ok so for starters, in class we talked about collectivism versus individualism. Very interesting topic, especially for Europeans because we have very different outlooks on it there depending on the country. We have a saying that the more West/North you go people would mostly look after themselves and of course vice versa. Maybe this comes from the disparity in income between the countries of the West/East. Poorer societies are more likely to stick together, because they have mostly family to rely on. But about Japan I found it a bit confusing in class, since I always looked at the country and also from my personal experience as a hard place to make bonds. Especially deeper ones. You need a lot of time to achieve something like that. Japanese students in class said to me the contrary, that Japan is a very collectivist culture. Maybe, the meaning of collectivist is different in Asia, than in Europe? I really cant say.  Similarities and differences between Bulgaria and J...

Education in Japan & the world

Image
Yo guys, Last time we talked about education and the differences between Japanese schools compared to other countires. When it comes to Bulgarian education at a fundamental level is the same as the Japanese one. You have 12 grades in total from elemetary up until high school and then after that you go to university. I think most coutries work like that so it is not that surprising.  One of the distinctions is that, as in every regard, Japanese people HUSTLE. Like if I had to compare their study load with the one I have back home I would fold under pressure (and I never do that). It is so much that I have seen students sleep at Kindai during the evening. I have the uncomfortable feeling that if I do that in Bulgaria, first of all, I am gonna get robbed by my fellow students and then kicked out, because the school is closing (I am joking the crime rate in Eastern Europe is low contrary to popular belief 😌😌).  Yeah to be honest in high school I passed every class by cheati...
Reflection about Hofstede’s Power Distance   Yo Guys, Today we spoke about various topics connected to power distance. It was interesting to see how everyone had different perspectives on each one relative to his culture. Starting on the very first question about if a child's opinion matters as much as their parents, I couldnt disagree more (lowkey). Of course it depends on the age, because as you progress as a person you become more mature and are able to make more reliable and optimal decisions. But the point of the parent in a way is to show the child the way as it grows. Of course their opinion matters and they need to be shown that they are heard, but after all I think the opinion of a 40 year old woman/man matters more than a 7 year old. Also, the second question relates to that. You as a parent needs to show that you can give trustworthy advice, but I still think the kid should ask "why?" so that it can develop critical thinking. I do not understand how the 3rd que...
