Reflection about Hofstede's Individualism vs Collectivism
Wassup, Ok so for starters, in class we talked about collectivism versus individualism. Very interesting topic, especially for Europeans because we have very different outlooks on it there depending on the country. We have a saying that the more West/North you go people would mostly look after themselves and of course vice versa. Maybe this comes from the disparity in income between the countries of the West/East. Poorer societies are more likely to stick together, because they have mostly family to rely on. But about Japan I found it a bit confusing in class, since I always looked at the country and also from my personal experience as a hard place to make bonds. Especially deeper ones. You need a lot of time to achieve something like that. Japanese students in class said to me the contrary, that Japan is a very collectivist culture.
