Business Culture in Japan and the World

Hi,  Business culture in Japan and Bulgaria can be quite different. In terms of punctuality it is not even close. I think Japanese are very much on time, all the time. In Bulgaria you can be late maybe around 5 to 10 late 15 at the very max in some cases. Of course if something important pops up they are not going to kill you.  Company parties are a culture of sorts in Bulgaria. Some do it very often but I think the norm is between 2-4. Team buildings are done like going to Greece or Turkey or maybe a resort town in the country, of course that also depends on the budget of the institution. “Customer is king” at least in my experience in Japan is very true. The vendors at stores, security, cleaning staff, etc. is very friendly and always willing to help even if its difficult. Maybe its fake but on a surface level it creates a very good image of the country in terms of customer experience. In Bulgaria everything that I listed sometimes could be very opposite. Because of th...

Masculine and Feminine Cultures in the World

Image
👋, I think masculinity and femininity is about men and women. And about their general behaviour. And I also think that Hofstede went too analytical with it, its never that serious. I come from a very traditional country and I think that the model is maybe a bit outdated. Both of them are presented as opposites presented on a spectrum.  Masculinity is usually shown as our good friend Conan the barbarian here, which I guess, shows strength, assertiveness, independence, and competitiveness, and a really big sword⚔️⚔️. Whereas femininity is more like Jasmine from "Aladdin" (best Disney princess dont @ me). Which is linked to traits like empathy, cooperation, sensitivity and nurturing behaviour. These traits are obviously not fixed through biology when you are born but they develop through societal norms and personal identity. I would say that modern society does not agree with Hofstede's model that much anymore. Both traits are more and more understood as flexible and not e...
Hello, Last week class class showed us some things about parenting when it comes to Japan. We found out that in Japanese families it is common to sleep with your parents until "later age" compared to the perception of other societies about it. Also it is normal, i guess, to spoil your child in a way early on in its life, when it has not developed critical thinking like that, to prevent distress. Which also maybe played a part of creating the "golden emperor" nickname, used for spoiled babies in the ages 0-5. All of those things got compared to a lot of countries in class. If I have to compare it to Bulgaria I'd say it differs a lot. Kids start sleeping alone early on, if not they mostly sleep with the mom until 1st grade starts, but I am not sure how common this is. I also wouldnt say that children in my home country get spoiled that much, of course you have outliers but they are definetely in the minority.  The video was very interesting even if it was not the...
